The new Coffeehouse site is going live this week of Monday March 8, 2010. It's a soft launch... meaning we'll have a formal presentation announcement after we load everybody up into the new site. The old Coffeehouse site is now a time capsule at www.coffeehouse1.com

Looking for the old site? Your previous profile such as michaelmarian.coffeehouse.ca, just change 'coffeehouse.ca' to 'coffeehouse1.com' such as http://michaelmarian.coffeehouse1.com and your old profile will come up as before. Otherwise just go to www.coffeehouse1.com, as in version 1.

We're keeping the old site and will be creating a book out of the 'old year book' that the old site has become. It's a document of the past 10 years of the Coffeehouse community. It's basically a time capsule of the community from 2001 to 2009.

WHAT IS COFFEEHOUSE?

THE VENUE definition
A coffeehouse, coffee shop, cafe etc. have some characteristics of bars and restaurants. In the Muslim world you'll also find shisha being smoked in hookahs. In other parts of the world including Canada you'll even hind cannabis being smoked as well.

The essential part from the beginning has been the social functions where folks congregate to talk, write, read, play or simply to while away the time alone or in groups.

THE EVENT definition
Then there's Coffeehouse as a social event for raising awareness for some cause whether political, artististic. Amnesty International sponsers coffeehouses specific to their cause.

This latter part is closer to what Coffeehouse Arts & Culture is focused on. Unlike other cool sites such as Livejournal or My Space, Coffeehouse is about "live in the venues".
